Road intersection grant applications
The city is applying for federal STBG money to fix one of its most dangerous intersections, where a councilman says a friend was paralyzed and trains back up traffic while 600 new homes have been added nearby.
Sidewalk connectivity gap on Coltrane
Faith Bible Church won a sidewalk exception because steep slopes would require a retaining wall — but commissioners worried about future walkability near the new Uncommon Ground development. No sidewalks exist on either side of that stretch of Coltrane today.
OnCue driveway spacing near Kelly/Covell intersection
A commissioner flagged the driveway closest to the busy Kelly and Covell intersection, where drivers will have to cross four lanes to reach the turn lane. Staff couldn't answer on the spot — and a resident asked for traffic engineers to show up with fuller analysis in future hearings.
West Downtown Walkability project funding
The railroad crossing turned out to cost more than anyone knew upfront, adding $258,435 on top of the city's share — total project cost is now just over $1 million. Sidewalk connections across the BNSF tracks should follow once it bids in November.
Regional transit funding continued
The $114,654 annual contribution to the regional transit authority was pulled because the paperwork didn't match the invoice by about $30,000 — it comes back October 12.
Regional paratransit pilot (ICAM grant)
The city backed a grant application with Norman and OKC EMBARK to plan coordinated handicapped transit across city lines; the city's share would be $10,000 if awarded.
Danforth and Kelly Intersection Project — ODOT Invoice
A surprise ODOT invoice pushed inspection costs up; the council approved the bill while pressing staff and ODOT for better communication going forward.
Covell Corridor Long-Range Planning
Several big projects cluster along Covell Road: a new subdivision (Covell Creek Corner), a custom-home site plan, a PUD rezoning at Covell and Bryant, and a Texas Roadhouse retail center. Together they signal continued rapid growth on Edmond's northwest edge.
Midwest Boulevard Reconstruction Agreement
The city was considering an $887,000 cooperation agreement with Oklahoma County to rebuild Midwest Boulevard between Danforth Road and Covell Road. This road work could affect commuters and residents along that corridor.
33rd Street Sidewalk Project
Another $110,080 in CIP reserve funds moves the 33rd Street sidewalk project forward.
Federal grant matches for I-35 and Boulevard projects
The council committed up to $4 million and $1.867 million in matching funds for federal BUILD grant applications — one for the ODOT I-35 frontage road and one for Boulevard intersection improvements.
Danforth Road corridor study
The council approved a $336,700 study of Danforth Road from the western city limits to Coltrane Road, plus $420,000 for two corridor safety studies.
