9 issues in parks rec with high priority
Mohawk golf course floodgate repair
Flooding at Mohawk Park Golf Course has cost nearly $300,000 since May and the course runs a $260,000 annual loss while Page Belcher profits. Operators propose a roughly $750,000 floodgate fix and a $14-15 million master plan renovation, funded by existing bond money, a possible revenue bond, and private fundraising.
Dreamkeepers Park renovation design
The cultural advisory committee ranked three design concepts for the Dreamkeeper Park, and a consolidated plan from the Native-owned architecture firm is still to come.
Flat Rock Creek soft-surface trails
Tulsa Parks wants about nine miles of hiking and biking trails across roughly 200 acres of floodplain land north of East 36th Street, plus two gated parking lots. Neighbors want details on fencing, parking, tree removal and security — and some are angry about trail builders trespassing — so the case returns December 8 after an open house.
AANHPI Leadership Roundtable
Twelve community members were selected to learn how city government works and how to advocate for their communities — building a pipeline of Asian American leaders in Tulsa.
Future of Tulsa Asia Fest
Tulsa's biggest Asian cultural event drew nearly 10,000 people but relies on volunteer commissioners to pull off. The commission voted to pause it in 2027 and rebuild for 2028, staying visible at night markets and other events in the meantime.
Tulsa Indian Community Center, Inc. formation
Community leaders are forming a nonprofit to create a Native American community gathering space, with a short-term building option close at hand and a longer-term build-out in mind. A June 24 meeting will gather community input.
Native American Day 2026 planning
The tenth annual celebration returns to Dreamkeeper Park with Mayor Nichols as parade marshal, a new round dance with TPS, and featured artist Jessica Harjo's designs.
Tulsa Zoo African Wilds funding gap
The city would put up $7.5 million from capital fund balance toward the zoo's African Wilds exhibit, but only if the zoo raises $2.5 million in private matching funds by October 1. Zoo leadership said they're hopeful they can make it.
Proposed Native community center
Community surveys show residents want a gathering place — not a museum — where Native families can meet, eat, and bring their kids. A location decision could unlock a grant application by July, and an offered space has reignited momentum.
