Demolition stay for 2211 NW Baltimore Avenue
The council denied another extension for a house declared dilapidated in March 2025, after neighbors complained for two years about junk, broken windows and repeated code abatements. Community volunteers had put about $23,000 into roof and foundation repairs, but the owner never called for required inspections. Demolition bidding now begins unless the situation changes.
FISTA Central Plaza lease changes
Several items combined to support the FISTA building expansion at Central Plaza: a parking lot lease, two utility easements, and approval of offsite water, sewer, paving and drainage plans.
Dilapidated structure enforcement
The council spent its special meeting deciding which crumbling houses get more time to fix up and which head to demolition. Owners who showed progress got extensions; owners with zero inspections saw their properties declared nuisances or sent to bid.
Homeless Action Plan community forum
Dr. AJ Griffin presented the community's three-year plan to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring — prevention, outreach, crisis response, housing access, and a public data dashboard. Council wants the dashboard live by end of October. The plan targets a 50% cut in first-time homelessness by 2030.
Air Quality Alert
Lawton is under an ozone alert for Saturday, Oct. 10, meaning air quality could be unhealthy for sensitive groups. If you’re in that group, it’s a good day to dial back intense outdoor activity.
