Lawton RISE Project Plan conformance
The council is starting a financing plan meant to close the gap between Lawton's high infrastructure costs and cheaper building in the county — only about a third of recent new home sales in Comanche County happened inside the city. Actual districts and the plan come back through a review committee and Planning Commission before any approval.
Industrial land purchase to lure Fortune 200 employer (Project Firework)
Lawton's economic development team wants to buy 440 acres from CCIDA to make room for a still-secret Fortune 200 company expected to bring 30-40 jobs and $19.5 million in local investment. The city is being asked to front $2.2 million now, with most of it repaid later through the FISTA's purchase of the site. Missing the October closing window could kill the deal.
Downtown blight study and urban renewal plan updates
A resident speaking for her grandmother in Old Town North warned that blight designations, urban renewal overlays, and aggressive code enforcement feel like a push to run working families off generational land — and asked the council to promise otherwise. Her questions went unanswered on the record.
Housing Resource Center and Task Force expansion
Bernita Taylor laid out the Roosevelt Empowerment Center, a triage-style resource center with 50+ partners aiming to open by March, plus a dashboard and eviction-prevention work with law enforcement. Eviction filings hit 1,122 in the first half of 2026.
Unpermitted athletic fields at Lawton High School
During the Alexander claim hearing, staff confirmed the Lawton High athletic fields were built without a required permit. Community Enrichment will decide whether enforcement action follows.
Lawton Youth Sports Complex agreements finalized
The Council sealed the deal on the 'Plex' with three agreements covering development, construction management and long-term operations. An $88.37 million bond closes the next day and groundbreaking is set for this week.
FedEx parking lot expansion drainage easement
The FedEx property owner needed permission to run a private underground drainage pipe under city-owned open space next to 1815 SW 11th Street. The city granted it for about $638, and the surface of the open space stays intact since the pipe is buried.
Binding site plan amendment — 55 NW Sheridan Road
A property owner asked the commission to amend the binding site plan for Lots 11-14, Block 6, Lee Addition at 55 NW Sheridan Road. A binding site plan sets what can be built and how the site is laid out, so the change could shape future development on that corner.
THE FISTA downtown replat
A replat of downtown blocks around Central Plaza would reorganize the area into twelve lots, clearing the way for the FISTA project. The Planning Commission recommended approval with conditions, which staff said had all been met.
